In November of 1958, the Oklahoma State Missions Board came to Blackwell to survey the town for the purpose of starting a Free Will Baptist Church. On March 20th, 1959, the mission was organized into the First Free Will Baptist Church of Blackwell, Oklahoma. Rev. Carl Sharp was elected as the first pastor.
Charter members were: Wayne and Mildred Sikes, Thomas and June Hart, Fay Bookout, Sharon Bookout, Lewis Ballet, Wayne and Wanda Bookout, Leonard and Della Davis, Jack and Donna Bookout, Harry and Grace Keller, and Carl and Sue Sharp.
In June of 1960, the church purchased property at 6th and Oklahoma, bought a building in Newkirk, and moved it to the property. It was remodeled and became the sanctuary. In 1965, the church built a new sanctuary and held the first service in the new building on Oct. 3rd, 1965, with an attendance of 134. In 1985, construction began on the present sanctuary, classrooms, and offices. The first services were held in the new building in May 1986. There have been many changes throughout the 50 plus years of the church. But through it all, God has been faithful. It is our prayer that God will always find us faithful to Him.
